Lady Crusaders Split Games, Defeat Tattnall County in High-Scoring Affair


The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Lady Crusaders softball team played two games last week, earning a thrilling victory over Tattnall County on Tuesday before falling to Pinewood Christian at home on Thursday. vs. Tattnall Co.
On Tuesday, the Lady Crusaders secured an 1110 victory over Tattnall County in a high-scoring contest. RTCA built an early 4-run lead in the second inning, but their opponents fought back, with RTCA having to rally in the seventh to secure the win.
Annabelle Coe put RTCA on the board in the top of the first inning with an RBI triple, but Tattnall answered and tied the game in the bottom of the first at 1-1.
RTCA jumped back in front in the second inning as they plated four more runs. Tattnall added two in the third and then another in the fourth as they closed the lead to 5-4. Two more from RTCA in the fifth inning pushed their lead to 6-4, but Tattnall jumped ahead in the bottom of the sixth inning with six runs, to take a 10-7 lead.
RTCA rallied in the top of the seventh inning. Chesney Burch brought in a run with a sacrifice fly, and RTCA then went on to load the bases. Elin Haygood came through with a walk that closed the lead to 10-9, but a Tattnall error allowed another run to score to tie the game at 1010. Amelia Mercer was up next and drove in the game winning run for RTCA, putting them on top, 1110.

On Thursday, the Lady Crusaders fell to Pinewood Christian 7-2 despite out-hitting their opponents nine to six.
Pinewood Christian got on the board in the top of the first inning with a little help from RTCA. They plated three runs to take the early lead over the Lady Crusaders. Pinewood added three more runs in the fourth inning and one more in the seventh inning to hold a 7-0 lead.
RTCA managed to score two runs in the bottom of that final inning, but it was not enough as they fell, 7-2.
The RTCA offense was led by Elin Haygood, Amelia Mercer, and Mary Frances Stanley, who each collected two hits. Annabelle Coe started in the circle for the Lady Crusaders, allowing six hits and six runs (four earned) over five innings. She struck out three and walked three.
This week RTCA hosted Tattnall County on Monday and were at Twiggs Academy on Tuesday, both after presstime. They will be back in action on Wednesday at First Preperatory Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m.
