TCHS Splits With Jeff Davis
It was a light but meaningful final week of the regular season for the Toombs County High School soccer programs. The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs faced off against the Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets in their lone matchup of the week, walking away with a split decision to close out the schedule. The girls secured a solid victory to build momentum, while the boys took a tough loss against the Jackets.
Girls vs. Jeff Davis
The Lady Bulldogs took care of business early in their matchup against the Lady Jackets. Every goal of the night came in a fast-paced first half, with Toombs County finding the back of the net three times while holding Jeff Davis to just a single score. Taking a 3-1 lead into the break, the Toombs defense tightened up the rest of the way. Neither team managed to score in a physical second half, allowing TCHS to secure the 3-1 victory. The offensive effort was well-distributed, with Kanijah Toby, Emerson Powell, and Emma Wright each contributing a goal to seal the win.
Boys vs. Jeff Davis
On the boys' side, the Bulldogs couldn't find the same rhythm. Juan Luna put in a strong individual performance, netting two goals to keep Toombs in the fight. However, the Yellow Jackets' attack proved to be too much on the night. Jeff Davis managed to put four goals on the board, handing Toombs a 4-2 defeat to cap off their regular season schedule.
With the regular season in the books, the focus shifts entirely to a clean slate in the playoffs. The Lady Bulldogs kicked things off by hosting Dodge County on Tuesday, with final results unavailable at presstime. A win in that opening round means they will advance to play next Tuesday against the winner of the Jeff Davis and Oglethorpe County matchup.
Meanwhile, the boys get their postseason started at home this Wednesday against Bleckley County. If the Bulldogs can defend their home turf and secure a first-round win, they will move on to face either Coosa or Jasper County next Wednesday.
