The Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office has received a $20,000 grant to purchase new equipment for patrol cars and offices through the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
Sheriff Glenn Giles announced that the Office had received the grant, which will continued from page
pay for new in-car and office computer equipment to enhance daily operations and improve the efficiency of law enforcement services within the county. This new and updated computer equipment will allow deputies to access information more easily and quickly, complete reports more efficiently, and communicate more effectively both in office and in the community.
“These new computers are a much-needed upgrade for our office and will greatly improve our ability to serve the public,” Giles remarked. “Having reliable and modern technology allows our deputies to work more efficiently, stay better informed, and ultimately, enhances the safety of our community.”
Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Director Allen Poole also commented on the grant, which was created to help improve safety throughout the state. “The loss of one life on our roads is one too many, and the fact almost all fatal traffic crashes can be prevented is one reason why we are awarding this grant,” he explained. “The target of zero traffic deaths in our nation is achievable and we will continue to help develop and implement educational messages, enforcement campaigns, and other safety initiatives aimed at bringing us one step closer to our goal.”
The new equipment will be purchased and installed throughout the coming months, as the grant money is available until September. For more information on the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and its programs, visit the organization’s website at www.gahighwaysafety. org.
