Sally D. Meadows Elementary School students in the Brave Minds program have been learning the importance of picking up litter and being responsible for their trash, as they recently presented their Keep It Clean, Vidalia! projects to share the importance of keeping the community clean.

The committee to Keep it Clean Vidalia was inspired by a few citizens who noticed that litter was polluting the city. These individuals are actively working to pick up trash and litter when able, but understand that for the issue to improve, all people have to agree that litter has no place within the city.

One aspect of the initiative that the committee hoped to accomplish was to instill the importance of taking pride in the community and being responsible for placing garbage in designated trashcans and bags in the city’s children so that they will continue these values throughout their lives.

Recently, the Brave Minds students emphasized the importance of keeping the community clean through either a virtual Canva presentation, tri-fold board, or an essay. Vidalia city officials and Rotary Club members visited the group to review their work and select winners of each grade level.

Kohen Parrish was named the winner for second grade, while Ellie Champion rose to the top of the third grade presentations. Myra Faulk was selected as the fourth grade winner, and Kaavya Dudhwala took home the bragging rights for fifth grade.

School officials emphasized their pride in all students who presented projects, as they shared many students spent time with their friends and families cleaning up some of their favorite places around town, such as Godbee Park and the Ed Smith Complex.
