Vidalia Issues Burn Ban

mrandolphadvance@gmail.com
In an effort to decrease the number of fires spreading throughout the area, the city of Vidalia has issued an open burning ban until further notice.
Dry conditions, low humidity levels, and increased wind conditions have created high fire conditions, making small fires spread quickly and intensify within minutes. To help avoid this danger, the Vidalia Fire Department has banned residents and businesses from burning yard waste, land clearing debris, or other open-burning materials.
W hile these materials cannot be burned at this time, citizens within the city limits can still grill outside their homes and businesses and burn in small backyard fire pits and burn barrels. Only natural falling debris – such as limbs – may be burned in these pits and barrels.
The burning of plastics, metals and wires, glass, tires and rubber, grease and asphalt products, liquid petroleum products and hazardous wastes, furniture and mattresses, building and demolition debris, and animal wastes or carcasses is not allowed at any time, regardless if a burn ban is in place or not.
Any illegal burning may be subject to fines and citations, as the city works together to prevent uncontrolled fires and ensure public safety. For further information, or to report illegal burning, call Fire Chief Brian Sikes at (912) 537-4141.
