Barons Shock #2 Grizzlies

The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons baseball team pulled out a big win over the #2 ranked Grizzlies of Georgia Gwinnett, but then were swept in a 3-game series by the #18 ranked Wolf Pack of Loyola University. vs. Gwinnett
The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons baseball team hosted the #2 Georgia GwinnettGrizzliesonMarch 24, and stunned them, taking the game 12-8 to give the #2 team in the nation just their third loss of the season.
The Barons controlled the game early, jumping on top in the first inning when Jack Morris singled in a run to open the scoring. The Barons added two more in the second, with Zach Carlton reaching on a fielder’s choice that brought home a run before a wild pitch allowed another to score, producing a 3-0 advantage. Georgia Gwinnett answered with single runs in the second, third, and fourth, including a sacrifice fly to tie the game at three.
The Barons responded immediately in the fifth, putting together a three-run inning keyed by another runproducing sequence from Carlton and sustained pressure throughout the frame to move back in front 7-3. The Grizzlies refused to go away, however. In the sixth, Dalton Miller came off the bench and launched a three-run pinch-hit homer to left, trimming the Barons’ lead to 7-6.
Clinging to a 7-6 lead in the sixth, the Barons exploded in the bottom of the seventh. Marquette Gibson started the outburst with a solo home run, and later in the frame, Michael Son delivered the biggest swing of the game with a four-run blast that gave the Barons a 12-6 lead. The cushion proved enough as the Barons held off a late Grizzlies push in the ninth. vs. Loyola
The Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons varsity baseball team fell to the #18 Wolf Pack of Loyola University in a March 27 doubleheader, and despite a late rally in the series finale on Saturday, the Barons were unable to overcome the visitors in a three-game sweep.
Game1
Loyola took an early 2-0 lead before BPCU's Caleb Strott and Jack Morris sparked a four-run third inning to put the Barons ahead 4-2. The Wolf Pack responded in the fourth with a two-run single by Jed Cambre to tie the game, eventually reclaiming the lead on a fifth-inning wild pitch. Despite outhitting Loyola 8-6, the Barons were unable to score over the final three frames.
Game2
The Wolf Pack built a commanding 9-2 lead by the middle of the fifth inning, punctuated by a John Lewis home run and a JJ Garcia sacrifice fly. BPCU rallied late, using a Michael Son two-run homer and RBI contributions from Raul Morales and Jeremi Lara to close the gap. After Fred Diaz and Morris helped cut the deficit to 10-9 in the eighth, Loyola utilized a ninth-inning suicide squeeze to pull away for the 12-9 victory.
Game3
Loyola secured the series sweep on March 28. BPCU briefly held a 2-1 lead in the second inning behind RBI singles from Lara and Morales, but the Wolf Pack regained control with a fourrun fifth. Loyola broke the game open with a five-run seventh inning featuring doubles by Reed Duthu and Garcia, along with a two-RBI single by Jaxon Buratt, ultimately stalling the Barons' comeback efforts.
The Barons will look to regroup before heading to West Point, Ga., to take on the Skyhawks of Point University in a conference series starting on April 3.
