Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons kicked off their indoor track season with a thrilling showing at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., on January 15, 2026. Both the men and women had several standout performances, from event winners, new school records, and even one Baron already qualifying for the indoor Nationals.
The Barons took top spots in five events between three of their athletes. Senior Yabaka Moore took home the top spots in the weight throw and shot put and broke the school record for weight with a distance of 15.23m with his winning throw. Freshman Kiara Green won the 200m and set the new school record with a time of 25.65 seconds, and broke the school record for the women's 60m with a time of 7.75 seconds.
The Barons had one more standout from Junior Hollis Morton. Morton broke the school record in the 200m, winning with a time of 21.73 seconds, and dominated the 60m, winning with a B-standard time, autoqualifying him for Nationals with a 6.74-second time.
Track and Field Director Tony Hawkins shared his thoughts on the team's performance, saying, “Season openers allow the athletes and staff to evaluate where we are and plan for the coming meets. We are off to a good start.”
The Barons will look to continue their hot start with their next meet at the Legends of Alachus County Invite in Gainesville, Fla., on January 31, 2026. The next meet will be the halfway point of the indoor season as more Barons look to qualify for the SSAC conference meet and Nationals.
