Summer Feeding Program Continues in Wheeler County

Happy Helpings is continuing to partner with the Wheeler County Library to distribute free nutritious meals and snacks for kids to the community until August.

Each Monday, families may pick up grocery meal packages at the Wheeler County Library, located at 61 W. Main Street in Alamo. This is not a program where students will eat on site, but where families may come between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to get the supplies needed to feed the children throughout the week.

Happy Helpings is Georgia’s Summer Food Service Program funded by the United States Department of Agriculture and administered by Department of Early Care and Learning Nutrition Services Division. Because food insecurity intensifies during the summer, when children have no access to regular school meals, the program helps provide nutritious food to children during the summer months when school cafeterias are closed.

All children ages 18 and under may participate free of charge with no income verification, registration, or paperwork required. Children do not have to be present for families to pick up meals, and can even pick up the meals for themselves.

The final meal distribution will occur on Monday, July 27.

The library hopes that this program will help the community and students to continue to thrive, even while taking a break from their normal school routines. For more information, call (912) 568-7321.
