Wheeler Swept By Wilcox

It was a tough week for the Bulldog baseball team of Wheeler County High School as they were swept in a three-game Region series by Wilcox County.

Game 1

In the first game of the series on Tuesday of last week, the Patriots got out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Wheeler answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning, but Wilcox plated three more in the top of the third to take a 5-3 lead.

Wilcox added a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth on the way to an 8-3 win over the Bulldogs.

Game 2 In the second game on Friday of last week, it was all Patriots as they rolled to a win. They scored two runs in the top of the first inning and two more in the third to take a 4-0 lead. Wilcox added four in the fourth inning to push their lead to 8-0.

The Patriots scored one more in the sixth inning as they beat Wheeler, 9- 0.

Game 3

They wrapped up the series on Monday of this week due to weather last week. Wheeler led 1-0 in the top of the third inning, but Wilcox put four runs on the board in the bottom of the inning to lead 4-1.

Wheeler scored one more run in the top of the fourth inning, but a run from Wilcox in the fifth and one in the sixth gave them a 6-2 win over the Bulldogs.

Wheeler is now 18-5 on the year, and they are 11-3 in Region play. They will play Hawkinsville on Thursday at home at 5:30 p.m. and will wrap up the regular season on Friday at home against Claxton at 5:30 p.m.
