TCHS Splits With Westside

The Toombs County High School Bulldogs baseball team split a double header in the first round of the GHSA State AA Playoffs against Westside of Augusta on Monday of this week. The if game of the best-of-three series was on Tuesday after presstime.

Game 1

Trayvone Harris threw a shutout to lead the Toombs County Bulldogs past the Westside Patriots 9-0 in game one of Monday nights GHSA State Playoff first round series.

Toombs got on the board in the first inning when Harris singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. The Bulldogs ended the first inning with a 3-0 lead. The Dawgs also tallied three runs in the fourth inning. Will Watts’ big home run and Tucker Braddy's hit moved runners across the plate for the Bulldogs.

Harris led the the Dawgs to victory on the mound. Harris gave up three hits over seven innings, striking out nine.

Toombs ended up with 11 hits in the game with Watts, Harris, and Braddy each having multiple hits for the Dawgs. Watts went 3-for-4 at the plate leading the Bulldogs.

Game 2

In game two, the Bulldogs couldn’t get anything going at the plate with both teams having strong performances on the mound. The Westside Patriots were just a little bit stronger at the plate in the 3-0 victory.

Lucas O’Conner started the game and pitched well for the Dawgs recording 20 outs. He took the loss for the Bulldogs. The pitcher surrendered three runs on four hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out eight.

Jackson Jenkins and Watts each collected one hit to lead the Bulldogs in game two.

If Toombs won the if game on Tuesday of this week after presstime, they will move on to the second round and play this weekend.
