Wheeler Falls To McIntosh

The Wheeler County High School Bulldogs football team faced off with McIntosh County Acadmey's Buccaneers in the first round of the GHSA State A Division II Playoffs. Wheeler took the early lead but could not hold off MCA as they fell to end their season.

In the first quarter with around five minutes to play, the Bulldogs took over deep in their own territory. They put together a solid drive and capped it off with a 1-yard touchdown run by Jason Culver. Joshua Juarez added the PAT as Wheeler took a 7-0 lead over the Bucs.

McIntosh answered back in the second quarter at the eight minute mark with a 19-yard rushing touchdown. They added the twopoint conversion to take an 8-0 lead over Wheeler. McIntosh scored again just a few minutes later after recovering an onside kick on the ensuing kickoff. They moved the ball down the field and went in for the score from three yards out. They again went for two, but this time the Bulldogs kept them out, but the score was now 14-7, and it remained that way until halftime.

Wheeler closed the gap late in the third quarter with a 4-yard touchdown run by Culver. But this time Wheeler missed the extra point as they trailed the Bucs 14-13.

In the fourth quarter the Bucs added a 1-yard touchdown with six minutes to go in the game. They were successful on the two-point conversion to make the score 22-13. The Bucs scored one more time in the game with one minute left to play on an 8-yard scamper. They missed the extra point, but led the game 28-13.

Wheeler could not put anything together over the final minute of the game and lost the McIntosh 28-13.

Wheeler ends the season with a 5-6 record. They will be losing several key seniors off of this year's team, but will be looking to have another good season next year.
