TCHS Volleyball 3rd At Area

The Toombs County High School volleyball team wrapped up their regular season last week and then hosted the Area Tournament on Saturday. TCHS took third place at Area to advance to the State Tournament. vs. Southeast Bulloch

It was an exciting night at Southeast Bulloch on the volleyball court Tuesday night, but unfortunately, the Lady Net Dogs came up on the short end of the stick.

Toombs lost their first five-set match 3-2 ( 25-15, 18-25, 22-25 27-25 & 13-15 ), and set five was a rollercoaster. The Dogs started out down 8-4 and went on a 5-1 run with Anna Patrick’s big block tying the game at 9-9. From there, the game set went back and forth until it was 13 even. Unfortunately, they lost the next 2 points to lose set five 15-13.

Several Bulldogs had a big night, starting with Zariaha Newkirk, who had 12 service points, 5 aces, 6 digs, and 15 kills. Scarlett Stanley also helped with 13 service points, 4 aces, 4 digs, and 3 kills. MaKenzie Kilgore (8 service points, 3 aces, and 4 kills), Kortney Mahone (9 service points and 2 aces), Martasia Burton (16 assists), and Anna Patrick (2 blocks and 6 kills) were major contributors. vs. South Effingham

Toombs had a tough night at South Effingham losing in straight sets 9-25, 7-25, and 22-25.

Leaders for TCHS on the night were Makayla Brewton (5 service points, 2 aces, and 5 digs), Arianna Hill (5 service points, 1 ace, a block, 2 digs, and 3 kills), Anabel Cruz (7 assists), Martasia Burton (5 assists), Anna Patrick (5 kills), and Zariaha Newkirk (4 kills). vs. New Hampstead

The Toombs County Lady Net Dogs finished up their regular season at New Hampstead on Thursday.

JV

The JV finished on a high note with a straight-set win against New Hampstead. ( 25-15 and 25-9). Leaders for the JV were Emma Wright (9 service points, 5 aces, and 5 assists), Arianna Hill (8 service points, 5 aces, and 5 kills), Lasagessa Thomas (7 service points, 2 aces, and 1 kill), Alivia Patrick (6 service points, 2 aces, and 2 kills). Congratulations to all of the JV Net Dogs who finished their season with a 10-3 record!

Varsity

The Varsity team got win number 20 in dominating fashion against Groves. The Bulldogs won in straight sets 25-5 and 25-1. Both sets had long runs in them. In set one, Zariaha Newkirk ran off 12 straight service points with 8 aces to close the set 25-5. In set two, Anabel Cruz started the set with 24 straight service points (17 aces and 3 assists).

In the second match, the Lady Net Dogs lost to New Hampstead in straight sets 17-25 and 15-25.

Area

Saturday was a busy day at Toombs County High School as the Bulldogs hosted the Area Volleyball Tournament. The Lady Net Dogs finished the day in third place, starting with straight-set wins over Windsor Forest (25-21 and 25-10). Standouts in that match were Zariaha Newkirk (9 service points, 5 aces, 4 digs, and 5 kills), Makayla Brewton (8 service points and 5 aces), and Anna Patrick (5 kills).

In the second match of the day, the Dogs fell against the Appling County Pirates (25-10 and 25-10). Newkirk had 4 kills in the match and Freshman Arianna Hill had 2 kills. The third match of the Tournament for Toombs was a straight-set win over Pierce County (25-23 and 25-19 ). Highlights in that match were Anabel Cruz’s 6 service points, 4 aces, and 9 Assists. Newkirk contributed with 4 service points, 3 aces, 2 blocks, 3 digs, and 12 kills. Patrick had 3 blocks and 4 kills and Martasia Burton added 7 assists. Kortney Mahone had 4 service points.

Toombs will travel to Augusta on Wednesday to face Richmond County Technical Career and Magnet School at 5:30 p.m.
