Mr. Edward Otis “TBone” Smith, age 87, of Lyons, died on Monday, April 18, 2022, at his home after a brief illness. Mr. Smith was a native of Lyons and was a 1954 graduate of Lyons High School, where he played halfback for the Bulldogs. He moved to Atlanta where he earned his certification for Tool and Die, and in 1959 moved to Brunswick. Later he moved to St. Mary’s and was owner/operator of Smith Tool and Die before returning to Lyons in 1973. In 1983, he moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, and then retired to Lyons in 1996. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lyons, a member of John Durst Sunday School Class, and played church Santa Claus for several years. Preceding him in death were his parents, Lee Otis Smith and Queen Hughes Smith; and 2 brothers, Daniel L. Smith and Jack W. Smith.

His family includes his wife of 62 years, LaWana Cook Smith of Lyons; 2 children, Chris Edward Smith of Lyons, and Catherine Elizabeth Smith Clayton and husband Michael of Columbia, SC; 3 grandchildren, Chelsey Clayton and fiancé Eric Fitzsimmons, Scarlett Clayton Collins and husband Buford, and Michael William Dean Clayton; 1 great-grandson, Colton Clayton Stuckey, all of Jacksonville, FL; 1 sister, Clara Dean Helms of Lyons; several nieces and nephews; and a special family friend, Sam NeSmith.

The funeral service was held on Friday, April 22, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church of Lyons, with Pastor Randall Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Lyons City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Sam NeSmith, Blane Brandenburg, Ladson Helms, Dewey Helms, Danny Smith and Lee Helms.
