RTCA Closes Regular Season

The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders had a light week as the regular season came to an end. The boys took on First Presbyterian Christian Academy on Tuesday, and then both teams played against AAA John Milledge Academy in Milledgeville on Friday night.

Boys vs. FPCA

This was a close game early as RTCA struggled to get the offense going. They led 12-11 at the end of the first period, but in the second MK McBride made it 15-11 with a three pointer, and then Drew Vaughn pushed it to 19-14 with a three. Jashaun Powell and McBride got shots to fall as RTCA had built up a 27-16 lead in the second quarter. Jackson Newton made it 31-21 with 2:40 left in the half, and at the end of the first half RTCA was on top 31-26.

In the second half RTCA blew up as they ended up running away with this game. RTCA took the win over FPCA 80-47.

McBride led RTCA with 30 points, Powell added 18 in the win.

Girls vs. JMA

It was a tough game for the Lady Crusaders vs. the #1 ranked AAA school. JMA led the game 8-4 in the first and then added a three pointer for an 11-4 lead. It was 11-6 at the end of the first. In the second JMA had pushed their lead to 22-8 over RTCA. By the third it was 33-14 and JMA took the win 40-22 over the Lady Crusaders. The top scorer for RTCA was sophomore Bree Wimberly with 16 points.

Boys vs. JMA

The RTCA boys lost just their second game of the season as they faced of with the top ranked team, and defending State Champions in AAA. RTCA did make it a game, but JMA was just too strong on this night. JMA was up 5-2 early on the Crusaders, but RTCA kept it close and were trailing 14-13 as the first was winding down. In the second JMA went ahead 19-14 with a three pointer and pushed that lead to 28-17. In the third RTCA had closed it back to 35-30, but a fast break for JMA made it 37-30. They increased the lead and were up 44-32 late in the third. JMA took the win over RTCA 57-44. Top scorers were junior Powell with 15 points, senior McBride with 12 points, and senior Tyler Buggs with 10 points. This week RTCA’s boys played FPCA on Tuesday after presstime. Both teams will take part in the Region Tournament later this week. The girls will not play until Friday at 5:30 p.m. The boys will play on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and then will play again either at 4:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. on Friday depending on the outcome of the Thursday game.
