Obituaries

Mr. Jack W. Tapley, age 84, of Vidalia, died on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. Mr. Tapley was a native of Treutlen County, moving to Vidalia in the mid 1940’s, and was a 1954 graduate of Vidalia High School. He worked as crane operator in his father’s business, Tapley Construction, and with McDonald Construction. He was an onion retailer for many years, and currently was a sales representative with Durkson in Vidalia. He built and flew airplanes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Denton Dustin Tapley and Bessie Whitaker Tapley; and 1 brother, Bobby Tapley. His family includes his wife of 58 years, Jean F. Tapley of Vidalia; 2 daughters, Dawn Horton and husband Andy of Vidalia, and Tracy Tapley of Wilmington, NC; 5 grandchildren, Wes Hozey of Weston, WV, Erin Cribbs and husband Trey of Wilmington, Paul Swick and wife Valarie of Burgaw, NC, Christy Swick and Austin Brogan of Raleigh, NC, and Cale Swick of Wilmington; 2 greatgrandchildren, Eli Cribbs and Easton Cribbs, and 2 great-grandchildren to be born soon; 2 sisters, Dale Tapley Edwards and Gale Tapley Craft, and 1 brother, Dustin Tapley and wife Betty, all of Vidalia; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on Monday, November 1, 2021, at 3:00 p.m., in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home, with Pastor Michael Plowman officiating.
