Phillips Signs With St. Andrews Phillips Signs With St. Andrews

On Thursday of last week Makeim Phillips of Vidalia High School signed his letter of intent to play football for the Knights of St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, NC. Phillips was a standout offensive lineman for the Indians, and was recently awarded Offensive Lineman of the Year at the VHS Football Banquet. He has also gotten the work done in the classroom and will be moving on to study physical therapy with hopes of one day working at a high level college program or perhaps even with an NFL team. Phillips said, “Feels good that all of this hard work has paid off. I appreciate all of the coaches, and especially Coach Cameron for all that they have done, and of course want to thank all of my teachers. Without them I definitely wouldn't be in this position. St. Andrews just felt comfortable, not a big university, and the coaches really feel like they care about you and your path.

His mother Misty stated, “I am very proud of Makeim. I knew from an early age this is what he wanted to do. He has been playing since recreation ball, and now to be heading to college is just wonderful. Not only, though, are we excited about the football, but also excited that he is heading off to find his career. We really like St. Andrews, just made us feel at home and are very invested in the kids. And they are academics first, which I really liked.”

VHS Head Coach Jason Cameron added, “He is a hard worker and a team first kid. He was our starting left guard all season and was a unanimous pick for our Offensive Lineman of the Year. His work ethic is great, and that is going to serve him well in the classroom as well as on the field.”
