Eagles Over Pataula

The Montgomery County High School Eagles baseball team took the trip to Edison to take on Paraula Charter's Panthers on Thursday of last week in the first round of the GHSA State A Playoffs and came away with a sweep in the best-of-three series.

Game 1

The Eagles won the first game of the series by the run rule in six innings. MCHS scored two runs in the top of the first inning and then added another in the third to take a 3-0 lead. The Eagles blew the game open in the top of the fourth inning with four runs to lead 7-0. Two more in the fifth and one in the sixth capped off the 10-0 win for MCHS. Wesley Hutcheson led MCHS with 3 hits on the day and 2 RBI's. Gavin Fennell and Darrin Truett also each added 2 RBI's for the Eagles.

Game 2

The second game was a much closer contest with the Eagles pulling out a three-run, come from behind win. The Panthers opened the game up with seven runs in the top of the first inning, and it looked early like they were going to force a game three. But in the third inning the Eagles came storming back with six runs to pull within one at 7-6. Pataula added a run in the top of the fourth inning, but in the bottom of the frame the Eagles took the lead with four runs, and were on top, 10- 8.

MCHS added one run in the sixth inning as they took the win in Game 2, 11-8, over the Panthers. Bo Davidson led MCHS with 3 RBI's in the game with Chase Cardell, Fennell, and Andrew Weeks all coming through with 3 hits each.

That moves MCHS into the second round where they faced off in a double header with the Tigers of Metter on Tuesday of this week on the road after presstime. If necessary they will play a game three of the series on Wednesday in Metter at 5:30 p.m.
