Vikings Get 1 From Wilcox

The Treutlen County High School Vikings baseball team wrapped up their regular season last week with a Region series against Wilcox County. The Vikings lost two of three games, but managed to pull out the third game in the series. They will now move on to the first round of the GHSA State A Playoffs which will begin this week.

Game 1

It was a rough start to the series as Treutlen fell by the run rule in five innings in Rochelle on Tuesday. Treutlen got on the board first with two runs in the top of the first inning, but the Patriots answered in the bottom of the frame with three runs to take the lead.

In the second inning Wilcox added four more runs to push their lead to 7-2, and then put three on the board in the third and five more in the fourth inning as they rolled to a 15-2 win.

Game 2

The second game of the series was on Friday in Soperton, and it went much like the first. Wilcox took the lead in the top of the first inning with three runs. They added a run in the third inning as they went ahead 4-0, and then blew the game open in the fourth with seven more runs to lead 11-0.

Wilcox plated three more in the fifth inning, with Treutlen finally getting on the board in the bottom of the fifth, but it wasn't enough as they fell by the run rule, 14-1.

Game 3

In the third game of the series, also on Friday, Treutlen finally came out with a win. They led 1-0 after the first inning, but Wilcox tied it up in the top of the second inning.

Then in the fourth, the Vikings plated four more runs to jump out to a 5-1 lead. They held on for the 5-2 win over the Partiots. This week the Vikings will take on Seminole County on the road in the first round of the playoffs. They have a double header scheduled for Thursday with the first game at 3:00 p.m. The 'If' game is on Friday.
