MCHS Eagles Sweep Dublin Irish MCHS Eagles Sweep Dublin Irish

The Eagles of Montgomery County High School played a three game Region series last week against the Irish of Dublin. MCHS won all three games to close out their regular season.

Game 1

Dublin struck first in the top of the first inning with a leadoff homerun. A couple of errors and a single gave Dublin a 4-0 lead.

The Irish got back to work in the top of the second inning as they added three more runs to take a 7-0 lead, but MCHS answered in the bottom of the second. Wesley Hutcheson and Andrew Weeks got hits to put runners at the corners. An error brought in a run and then a wild pitch made it 7-2. Calvin Williams ripped one up the middle to close it to 7-3, and then the Eagles went on to load up the bases. Gavin Fennell followed that with a chopper through the left side, and an error in left field brought the Eagles to within one, In the top of the third inning Dublin extended their lead to 9-6, but MCHS scored a run in the third and one in the fourth as they closed it back to 9-8. The Eagles added three more runs in the sixth inning to take the lead, 11-9, and then held on in the top of the seventh inning for the win.

Fennell led the way with 3 RBI's.

Game 2

The Eagles ran away with a win in the second game of the series as they put six runs on the board in the top of the first inning on Friday. Dublin scored one in the bottom of the first, but MCHS answered with a run in the top of the second inning.

Both teams scored five runs in the third inning to make the score 12-6 with MCHS still out in front. MCHS added four in the fourth and five in the sixth inning on their way to a 21-8 win over the Irish.

Fennell again led the team in RBI's with 5, and Darrin Truett added 3. Bo Davidson got the win for MCHS.

Game 3

The final game of the series was another close one. Montgomery took the lead in the first inning with four runs, with Dublin getting one in the bottom of the frame. Dublin closed the gap to 4-3 with two in the second inning and then went ahead with four more runs in the third to lead 7-4 over the Eagles. MCHS bounced back with five runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take the lead back, 11-7. Dublin managed one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but MCHS got the win, 11-8. The Eagles are now getting ready for the playoffs with games and time to be announced.
