The Toombs County High School Bulldogs baseball team picked up three wins last week over East Laurens and with that gave themselves a chance to make it to the State Playoffs. Toombs will have to win two of three games from Swainsboro this week to beat out the Tigers for the final playoff spot.

Game 1

It was an easy win for the Bulldogs as they took the game by the run rule over the Falcons on Tuesday at home. Toombs took the early lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning with lots of help from the Falcons. Errors, hit batters, and wild pitches gave the Bulldogs the lead. Gray Stephens also had an RBI double and Tray Harris hit a sacrifice fly.

Toombs added four more runs in the second inning as they loaded the bases. Stephens and Harris then walked to bring in two more runs for a 5-0 lead. Jason Dukes got an RBI on a fielder's choice and Brantley Upshaw hit a chopper up the middle for a 7-0 lead. The Falcons loaded the bases in the top of the third inning and were able to get two runs out of it to make the score 7-2. Toombs added a run in the third inning on an RBI hit by Chase Musselman and in the fourth they scored one more on a hit by Upshaw.

Toombs closed out the game in the fifth inning as they loaded the bases and scored three runs. The first came on a walk by Harris. Dukes followed with a two-run hit to win the game 12-2.

Musselman got the win on the mound. Dukes led the Bulldogs with 4 RBI's and Stephens added 3.

Game 2

It was another five inning game as the Bulldogs rolled to a win. Toombs put eight runs on the board in the top of the first inning with Harris hitting in two, Upshaw adding an RBI, Alex Gordy brought in a run with a sacrifice. Another run scored on a wild pitch, and on a ball hit by Foster Jones another run came across the plate. The final two runs scored on an RBI single by Musselman to give the Bulldogs an 8-0 lead.

The Falcons put two runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning, but Toombs answered with a run in the top of the third inning on a hit by Upshaw for a 9-2 lead.

Toombs added five more runs in the fourth inning. Wil Watts' fly ball was dropped in center allowing two runs to score, Chandler Lynn had an RBI single and then with the bases loaded Stephens walked to bring in a run. Harris was then hit by a pitch to score another to put TCHS up 14-2.

Toombs closed out the game in the fifth with three more runs to win the game 17-2. Lynn and Harris each had 3 RBI's in the game.

Game 3 Back in Lyons for the third game, the Falcons took the lead in the top of the first with one run, but Toombs tied the game in the second on a ball hit by Watts. TCHS added three runs in the fourth inning with Watts driving in Upshaw. Watts came around to score on errors, and the Lynn drove in Gordy with an RBI single for a 4-1 lead.

Toombs plated two more in the fifth and another in the seventh to take the game 7-1 over the Falcons.

This week the Bulldogs wrap up the regular season with the Tigers of Swainsboro. The first game of the series was on Tuesday in Swainsboro after presstime. They will play again on Thursday in Lyons at 5:45 p.m., and then on Friday in Swainsboro at 5:30 p.m.
