Wheeler Takes 2 Over Dublin

The Bulldogs baseball team of Wheeler County High School took on the Fighting Irish of Dublin last week in a three-game Region series and came away with two wins. That improved their record to 5-15 overall an 5-13 in Region play.

Game 1

On Tuesday in Alamo the Bulldogs fell in the first game of the series. Wheeler took the early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning and then extended that to 5-0 with three more runs in the third inning.

Dublin scored a run in the top of the fourth inning, but Wheeler answered with one in the bottom half of the frame to make the score 6-1. The Irish added three more in the top of the fifth with Wheeler scoring just one in the bottom of the inning as Dublin closed the lead to 7-4.

In the top of the seventh inning the Irish got the offense moving and plated four runs as they took the lead, 8-7 over the Bulldogs. Wheeler was not able to score in the bottom of the seventh as the Irish took the win, 8-7.

Game 2

In the first game of a double header in Dublin on Friday the Bulldogs rolled over the Irish. Wheeler held a 3-0 lead after the first inning and were up 4-1 after the second. Dublin closed the lead to 4-3 in the third inning, but seven runs by the Bulldogs in the top of the fourth blew the game open.

Dublin managed one run in the fourth and fifth innings, but Wheeler still led 11-5. Wheeler plated one run in the sixth and then two more in the seventh as they took the win, 14-5.

Rhett Rodgers, Cooper Hartley and Drew Dixon each had 2 RBI's in the game to lead the Bulldogs.

Game 3

In the final game of the series the Bulldogs again pulled away with a big inning to win the game. Wheeler was up 1-0 after the third inning, but Dublin came back and took the lead 2-1 in the continued from page

bottom of the fourth. The Bulldogs tied the game in the top of the fifth inning, but the Irish answered with a run in the bottom of the frame to lead 3-2. Wheeler tied the game in the sixth inning at 3-3, and then in the top of the seventh inning pulled out with 11 runs to lead 14-3. Dublin did score three more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Bulldogs took the win, 14- 6.

Hartley had 4 RBI's to lead Wheeler, with Kade Bull adding 3 RBI's.

Wheeler took on Wilikinson County on Monday of this week after presstime, and then will play a three-game series against Hawkinsville next week to wrap up the regular season.
