It was a rough week for the Eagles baseball team of Montgomery County High School as they took on undefeated Johnson County last week in a three-game Region series. The final game of the series on Friday was suspended in the sixth inning, but the Eagles fell in the first two games earlier in the week.

Game 1

The first game of the week was in Mt. Vernon on Tuesday. Johnson scored three times in the first inning to take the lead and then pushed it to 8-0 in the top of the second inning. The Eagles got the bats going in the bottom of the second inning, though, and closed in on that lead.

In the second an RBI hit by Calvin Williams put the Eagles on the board, and then two more runs scored on a hit by Chase Cardell to make it 8-3. The Eagles added one more run in the inning to make it an 8-4 game.

In the top of the third inning Johnson put seven more runs on the board as they blew the game open. They added eight more in the fourth on the way to a 23-5 win over the Eagles in four innings.

Game 2

The Eagles kept it close in the second game of the series, which was on Thursday in Wrightsville. The Trojans scored first with a run in the bottom of the first inning, and then scored another run in the fourth for a 2-0 lead. MCHS put two runs across in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at 2-2, but Johnson added two more in the sixth on the way to a 4-2 win over Montgomery.

Game 3

The third game had to be postponed in the sixth inning, but the Trojans were in the lead at the time. Johnson scored six runs in the top of the first inning with the Eagles plating two in the bottom half of the frame.

Montgomery took the lead in the third inning with six runs to jump ahead, 8-6. One run for the Trojans in the fourth and then four more in the sixth put them back ahead 11-8. With just one inning left to play, the game had to be called and will be finished at a later date.

This week the Eagles match up with Wheeler County for a Region series. The first game was played on Tuesday after presstime, and they will be back on the field on Friday for a double header in Alamo with the first game starting at 4:00 p.m.
