Indians Play 4 Opponents

The Indians basketball teams of Vidalia High School had a busy week last week as they took on four opponents. On Monday they hosted the Raiders of Bacon County, were at rival Toombs County on Tuesday, traveled to Bacon County in Alma on Friday and then hosted East Laurens on Saturday. The Lady Indians split their games while the boys went 3-4.

Girls vs. Bacon

Bacon took an early 6-2 lead over VHS in the girls game, but the Indians tied the game at 6-6. They continued to work the Raiders and in the third period were on top 26-18. VHS led 47-29 in the fourth and took the win 55-33.

Boys vs. Bacon

It was a close game between VHS and Bacon, but the Indians pulled it out. VHS led early 4-2, and it was tied at 8-8 later in the first. In the second it was a 15-12 lead for the Indians, but again Bacon tied the game at 15-15. The Raiders took a 23-20 lead in the third, but VHS fought back and went back on top 26- 25.

In the fourth VHS was up and held on to win the game 47-42.

Girls vs. Toombs

The Lady Bulldogs got the big Region and rivalry win over Vidalia on Tuesday of last week. Toombs jumped out to an 18-8 lead over the Lady Indians and led 37-23 in the second period of the game.

TCHS pulled away and won the game 66-47 over VHS.

Boys vs. Toombs

VHS held a 15-5 lead at the end of the first period, and pushed that lead to 33-9 by the end of the first half of the game. In the third period the Bulldogs finally got a bit of offense going, but they still trailed 50-25 heading to the fourth. VHS took the win, 69-36.

Girls vs. Bacon

It was another win for the Lady Indians over Bacon County as they went to Alma on Friday. In this game the Lady Indians got the win over Bacon 44-31.

Boys vs. Bacon

In this matchup the Raiders got revenge from early in the week. It was another close game, but Bacon pulled out a onepoint win. The Indians were up 5-0 early in the game and led 13-12 in the second period. Bacon tied the game at 17-17 and before the end of the half VHS hit a ¾ court shot to lead 20-17 at halftime.

In the second half of the game, though, the Raiders kept fighting and pulled out a 39-38 win over VHS in a low scoring game.

Girls vs. E. Laurens

On Saturday the Lady Indians fell to the Lady Falcons in the Region game. The Falcons won 50-35 over VHS. They led 15-8 in the first and were up 18-14 in the second. VHS kept it close at 20-16, but by the third were trailing 36-22.

East Laurens won, 50-

Boys vs. E. Laurens

The VHS boys bounced back from their close loss to Bacon and rolled to a win over the Falcons. VHS took the Region victory, 76-48 to improve their Region record.

The Lady Indians are 8-9 overall and are 4-5 in the Region while the boys are 11-6 and 5-4 in Region play. This week VHS will play Jeff Davis at home on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., and will wrap up the regular season on Friday at Swainsboro at 6:00 p.m.
