Blue Angels Returning to Vidalia Onion Festival in 2022

The U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Team will return to Vidalia to perform at the 2022 Vidalia Onion Festival. The announcement came last week on the U.S. Navy Blue Angels Instagram post revealing the 2022 Show Schedule at the virtual International Council of Air Shows Convention. ` “We could not be more excited to have received word that we will once again be hosting the Blue Angels in 2022,” said Vidalia Mayor Doug Roper. “The U.S. Navy Blue Angels flight demonstration team is second to none. They represent the best of the best and we are thrilled to soon have them in the Sweet Onion City once again.” Roper added, “We want to thank those local volunteers from years past that initiated our relationship with the Blues, as well as those currently responsible for putting in the work to secure them for our 2022 festival. Our community should be extremely proud and honored for such a wonderful opportunity.” Andy Woodruff, 2021 Vidalia Onion Festival Chairman, noted, “We are very excited and are looking forward to having them in Vidalia again. Getting the news this early gives us time to plan and to put together an air show committee. Having an air show is like having a festival within a festival and the Blue Angels make the show bigger and more thrilling.” Woodruff continued, “Any year we have an air show, our attendance increases because it brings air show enthusiasts to town and to our other festival events. Creating that awareness of our festival and of Vidalia increases visitors throughout the year. The festival committee has been committed to bringing the Blues back to Vidalia, so thanks to those who worked to make this happen. The Vidalia Onion Festival Committee is made up of community volunteers appointed by the Vidalia City Council. They work 10 months each year to plan, secure volunteers and carry out the work to produce this annual festival.
