Mrs. Rachel Thompson
Mrs. Rachel Rountree Thompson, age 92, of Lyons, died on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, in The Oaks Bethany in Vidalia after a brief illness.
Mrs. Thompson was a native of Tattnall County and moved to Lyons in 1946. She was a homemaker and worked as a bailiff for the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lyons and the John Durst Sunday School Class, and she really enjoyed working and managing the children’s nursery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Thompson; her parents, Guy Rountree and Janie Lou Sample Rountree; and 3 sisters, Ann Williams, Bobbie Deal and Betty Sue Rountree.
Survivors include 3 children, Don Thompson of Lyons, Beverly Thompson of Claxton, and Tiffany Thompson Dixon and husband Jack of Warner Robins; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer Burns and husband Tren of Johnson Corner, T.J. Dixon and Racheal Dixon, both of Warner Robins; 2 great-grandchildren, Allison Burns and Abby Burns; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service was held on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at 2:00 p.m., in the South Thompson Baptist Church Cemetery, with Clint Williams officiating.
