lems as they took the win. Neither team scored in the first inning, but in the top of the second, Vidalia plated six runs as they jumped out to a big lead. RBI hits came from Hatcher Williams, Bryson Taylor, Kellen Nee-Smith, and Macks Sasser.
Colquitt picked up their only run of the game in the bottom of the second inning, but Vidalia ansered in the top of the third with a run as they led 7-1. VRD scored two more runs in the fifth inning on the way to a 9-1 win.
LRD vs. Wayne Co.
Up next for Lyons was Wayne County. Lyons again took care of business as they didn't allow Wayne to score any runs in the game.
Grayson Locke picked up an RBI double in the second inning to put Lyons on the board with a 1-0 lead. Rocky Mitchell added an RBI double in the bottom of the third inning to give LRD a 2-0 lead.
Lyons plated two more runs in the fourth inning, and three more in the fifth as they took the win over Wayne, 7-0.
VRD vs. Sumter Co.
Vidalia's next opponent was Sumter County. VRD opened the game with three runs in the top of the first inning with two of those coming off a double by NeeSmith. Vidalia added four more in the second inning on hits by Taylor and NeeSmith, and a sacrifice fly from Chance Woodruff. That put VRD on top 7-1.
Vidalia added three more runs in the third inning and two more in the fifth on the way to a 12-4 victory.
VRD vs. LRD
That set up a rivalry game in the semifinals of the winners' bracket between Vidalia and Lyons. It was a close game with Vidalia coming out on top. Vidalia picked up two runs in the top of the first inning on a hit by Woodruff to take the early lead.
Neither team scored again until the fourth inning when Vidalia plated four more runs to extend their lead to 6-0.
Lyons got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 6-1. Vidalia added another run in the top of the sixth inning to push their lead to 7-1.
Lyons gave it their all as they came through with three RBI singles in the bottom of the sixth to close the gap to 7-5, but it was not enough as Vidalia held on to get the win, 7-5.
That moved Vidalia into the Championship Game and sent Lyons into the losers' bracket.
LRD vs. Wayne Co.
Lyons faced off with Wayne County in the semifinals of the losers' bracket and rolled to an easy win. Lyons pulled away early in this game with three runs in the top of the first inning. They added four more in the second on hits by Williamson, McCloud, Christian Trevino, and Jernigan for a 7-0 lead. Lyons scored one more run in the fifth inning to take the win, 8-0, and secure their spot in the State Championship Game.
VRD vs. LRD Championship Game 1 In the Championship, Lyons came out swinging as they racked up 17 hits, and cruised to a win to force a second and deciding game.
Lyons opened up the game with 12 runs in the top of the first inning. RBI hits came from McCloud, Trevino, Jernigan, Maddox McDaniel, and Coursey.
Lyons added two more runs in the second inning on a home run by Rocky Mitchell. That gave LRD a 14-0 lead over Vidalia. Lyons held over the next two inning to take the win by the run rule, 14-0.
Game 2
That forced a second game to decide the Championship, but this time Lyons had just five hits in the game as Vidalia held them to just one run to win the Championship.
Vidalia took the early lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, but Lyons answered with a run in the bottom of the frame to make the score 2-1.
Vidalia picked up RBI hits from Bryson Taylor and Chance Woodruff in the top of the third inning to extend their lead to 4-1, and VRD added one more run in the fourth inning for a 5-1 lead. Vidalia held on over the final two innings to take the win, 5-1, and the Championship.
It was a good season for both teams, and it is great to see first and second place go to local teams.
