Memorial Health Meadows Hospital has solidified its reputation as being a leading healthcare provider in the region, state, and now, the nation, as the Hospital was named one of the U.S.’s 100 Top Hospitals by Premier, Inc. and Modern Healthcare.
For more than 30 years, Premier’s 100 Top Hospitals program has used objective, quantitative analysis of publicly available data to identify the top-performing hospitals in the United States. The program is designed to help healthcare leaders pursue higher performance and deliver added value to patients and communities by providing transparent, nonbiased benchmarks and actionable insights.
To try to ensure that these designations are as unbiased as possible, hospitals are not permitted to apply to participate in the study and do not pay to market their honor.
A total of 2,540 shortterm, acute care, nonfederal hospitals throughout the nation were considered for the honor, as the companies reflected on inpatient mortality indexes, complication indexes, healthcare –associated infections index, 30-day mortality rates, 30-day hybrid hospital- wide readmission rates, average lengths of stay, inpatient expenses per discharge, Medicare spent per beneficiary, operating profit margins, and HCAHPS top-box percentages. This information was found through research on data sources from 2019 through 2024, such as Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MEDPAR) data, and Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Car Compare data.
“This recognition reflects the dedication of our physicians, nurses and colleagues who show up each day committed to the care and improvement of human life,” emphasized Memorial Health Meadows Hospital CEO Wesley Taylor. “It is a privilege to serve this community, and I am incredibly proud of our team and the care they provide.”
This accomplishment is impressive because of the high level of achievement and excellence of the hospitals reviewed, as the analysis found that this year’s 100 Top Hospitals not only had better patient outcomes but also operated more efficiently than the 100 Top Hospitals in previous years. Some of the impacts noted included that more than 279,000 additional lives were saved, more than 477,000 additional patients did not have complications from procedures or care, more than $14.3 billion was saved in inpatient cost savings, and more than 21,700 fewer patients were readmitted to the hospital within 30 days of discharge.
In addition, the analysis noted a 36.8% difference in inpatient mortality rates between benchmark hospitals and peer hospitals nationally, as small community hospitals showed the largest inpatient mortality difference, with a 49.3 percent improvement compared to peers. Teaching hospitals had the largest difference in the amount of complications, as they outperformed peer hospitals by 30%, and over half of the hospitals recognized were repeat winners from last year.
“Premier’s 100 Top Hospitals program recognizes healthcare organizations that consistently deliver high-quality care while improving operational and financial performance,” remarked Premier President of Performance Services David Zito. “By highlighting top performers and providing transparent, data-driven insights, this program helps hospitals nationwide identify opportunities to enhance care delivery, strengthen financial sustainability and improve outcomes for the communities they serve.”
This designation emphasized Memorial Health Meadows Hospital’s dedication to providing quality service for the best possible outcome for patients. To learn more about the Hospital, visit www.memorialhealthmeadows. com.
