VHA Eagles With 3 Wins
The Vidalia Heritage Academy Eagles found their rhythm this past week, putting together a stellar stretch of baseball to capture three consecutive victories. Heritage overpowered Trinity Christian School of Griffin on Thursday before hitting the road on Saturday to show both resilience and firepower in a doubleheader sweep over the St. Andrew's Lions. vs. Trinity
Heritage set the tone early on Thursday against Trinity, erupting for six runs in the top of the first inning. Trevor White initiated the scoring, followed by RBI singles from Bragg Alford, Levi McDade, and Camden Carter, along with a sacrifice fly by Hamp Mc-Dade.
After Trinity pushed a run across in the bottom half, the Eagles kept the pressure on, adding a run in the third and two more in the fourth to build a commanding 9-1 advantage. Trinity showed some life with a four-run fifth inning, but VHA quickly shut down the rally, tacking on two runs in the sixth and another pair in the seventh to secure a comfortable 13-7 victory. vs. St. Andrew's Game 1 Saturday brought a tough road test in Savannah, and the opening game against St. Andrew's proved to be a true battle. The Lions struck first with a run in the second inning, but Trevor White answered for the Eagles with an RBI double to tie things up. St. Andrew's quickly reclaimed the momentum, plating three runs in the bottom of the third.
Trailing 4-1, Heritage began the hard work of chipping away at the deficit. They scored twice in the sixth, only for the Lions to add an insurance run in the bottom half. Down 5-3 in their final at-bat, the Eagles delivered a massive four-run seventh inning. Pearson O'Neal, Gray McNeal, Bragg Alford, and Rocco Braddy all came through with clutch RBI hits under pressure, giving VHA a lead they would stubbornly defend in the bottom of the inning for a thrilling 7-5 comeback win.
Game 2
With the momentum of a dramatic comeback fresh in their minds, the Eagles' offense operated at full capacity in the nightcap. Pearson O'Neal sparked a four-run first inning with an RBI single, establishing a pace the Lions simply couldn't match. Though St. Andrew's managed a run in the bottom of the first, Heritage responded with three more in the second, highlighted by a two-run knock from Gray Mc-Neal.
The Eagles systematically built their advantage, adding runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to extend their lead to 10-2. The Lions managed a brief rally with three runs in the fifth, but VHA answered emphatically. A four-run outburst, punctuated by a home run from Maddyx Herrin, put the game entirely out of reach at 14-5. The Eagles added one last run in the seventh and, despite a late four-run push by the Lions, closed out the game for a 15-9 victory to complete the sweep.
The perfect week pushes VHA's overall record to a solid 6-5 on the year. The Eagles took on the Savannah Athletic Association on Tuesday after presstime. The team will now get some welldeserved rest, taking the remainder of this week and next off for spring break before returning to the diamond on April 7.
