It was a good week for the Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons men's basketball team as they won 2-3 games last week. They started off the week with a win at home against the Toppers of Blue Mountain, dropped their middle game to Faulkner University's Eagles, but bounced back with a win at home over the Rams of Mobile University. vs. Blue Mountain

Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons used a stifling defense and efficient shooting to seize control in the first half and never relinquished the lead, defeating the Blue Mountain Christian University Toppers (Miss.) 77-62 on February 3, 2026, in Mount Vernon.

The Barons broke things open with a decisive first-half run, turning an early deficit into a double-digit advantage on the way to a 41-29 lead at the break. Brewton-Parker then maintained its edge throughout the second half, answering each Blue Mountain push and closing out the conference matchup to grab their eighth conference win of the year.

Gil Gonzalez led the Barons with 21 points, five rebounds, and four steals in 36 minutes, providing a consistent scoring option and defensive presence. Jayden Hill added 15 points, including a perfect 7-for-7 night at the free-throw line, while Abraham Garjah supplied 13 points, five assists, five steals, and three rebounds as the Barons’ backcourt set the tone at both ends.

The Barons continued to control the interior after the break, opening the second half with a series of high-percentage looks. Gonzalez threw down a dunk off a feed from Garjah at 17:59 of the second quarter to make it 43-32, then finished another dunk in transition at the 15:17 mark to stretch the lead to 49-34. Brewton-Parker’s largest cushion came when Xavier Gordon-Somers converted a layup assisted by Hill for a 5534 advantage with 13:55 to play. A late Gonzalez dunk with 45 seconds remaining pushed the score to 77-60 and effectively sealed the outcome.

Head Coach Leonard Epps reflected on the outcome after the game, saying, 'Excited to get this long week of games started with a win. I thought this was one of our more complete games. We had a short 3-4 minute lull in the 2nd half when we got a big lead, but we recovered and finished strong. Playing your best basketball in February is always the goal, and I think we are right there.' vs. Faulkner

The Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons men’s basketball team was unable to complete the late second-half comeback against the Faulkner University Eagles on February 5, 2026, and dropped the game 80- 76.

Despite the Barons’ strong start, the game turned in the second half as Faulkner found a rhythm offensively and used its size on the glass to create second-chance opportunities. The Eagles’ late run erased the Barons’ halftime cushion and swung momentum toward the visitors.

Offensively, the Barons leaned on Jadon Melvin, who turned in one of the most efficient performances of the night. The guard went 10-of-14 from the field and 6-of-10 from 3-point range while adding seven rebounds and a block, repeatedly providing answers when Brewton- Parker needed a basket. Brewton- Parker mounted a late charge in the final minute. Melvin’s 3-pointer with 42 seconds left cut the deficit to 78-72, which was followed by successful free throws from the Eagles. A late three-pointer from Jayden Hill brought the score to 80-76.

Head Coach Leonard Epps reflected on the team's performance following the game, saying, “That was a tough loss to a good team tonight, but I am really proud of how our guys responded. We didn’t let ourselves get completely out of the game and made a strong late push to force overtime. We have some things to go over in film and clean up, and this loss will help us get ready for our push to the postseason.” vs. Mobile

The Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons stood tall, shutting down the late-game offensive surge from the Mobile University Rams on February 7, 202,6 at Gillis Gymnasium, taking home the 61-58 win.

Tommy J. Tisdale III set the tone offensively for Brewton-Parker, finishing with a game-high 19 points on 6-for-14 shooting, including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc, along with four rebounds and four assists. His biggest shot came late in the first quarter, when he buried a 3-pointer in the closing seconds to turn a one-point deficit into a 31-30 lead at the break, completing a steady comeback after the Barons trailed by as many as 10 in the opening quarter.

The Barons outrebounded Mobile 33-26, including a 9-6 edge on the offensive glass, with Gil Gonzalez posting a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, five of them offensive, plus two blocks. Abraham Garjah added 13 points and a team-high five assists while going 7-for-10 at the line, repeatedly drawing contact and converting enough free throws to keep the Barons in front despite 13 team turnovers.

Head Coach Leonard Epps reflected on the game, saying. “Not pretty, but we will take it. Another night, not shooting the ball well from the free-throw line, but we found a way. At this point in the season, that’s all you want to do is find a way. We talked about getting consecutive stops this game, and we were able to get six kills (1 kill = 3 consecutive stops). I told them that if we get 6, we will win the game! Proud of our guys for being able to bounce back after a tough loss.”

The Barons will look to build off their win before going back out on the road to take on the Stallions of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on February 12, in Tifton, Ga., to start their final road trip of the regular season.
