Wild Week For Vikings
It was a week of highs and lows for the Treutlen County High School basketball teams. Both squads started the week strong with hard-fought road victories in Hawkinsville on Tuesday, but faced difficult setbacks later in the week against Swainsboro and East Laurens. Here is a look at the week's action: Girls vs. Hawkinsville
In a defensive struggle where points were at a premium, the Lady Vikings gritted out a victory over the Lady Red Devils. It wasn't a high-scoring affair, but Treutlen managed to control the tempo and came out on top, securing a 33-24 win to start the week. Boys vs. Hawkinsville The boys’ game was a tale of two halves. The Red Devils controlled the early momentum, leading 13-6 after the first quarter and extending that advantage to 28-17 by halftime. The Vikings, however, refused to fold. Treutlen came storming back in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 4239. Maintaining that intensity into the final frame, the Vikings overtook Hawkinsville to seal a thrilling 60-58 comeback victory.
Girls vs. Swainsboro
The Lady Vikings faced a tough challenge against the Swainsboro Lady Tigers. Swainsboro seized control early, jumping out to a 19-6 lead in the first period and widening the gap to 33-14 at the break. The deficit proved too large to overcome, as Swainsboro led 52-27 ending the third and closed out the game with a 62-39 win.
Boys vs. E. Laurens
The week ended on a sour note for the Vikings as they hosted the East Laurens Falcons. The visitors set a blistering pace immediately, putting up a massive first quarter to lead 36-13. The Falcons continued to pour it on, leading 48-19 at halftime and 77-26 after three quarters. East Laurens eventually took the game with a final score of 9041.
The Lady Vikings are 3-12 on the season and they are 3-4 in Region play. The boys are 5-10 on the year and are 3-3 in the Region. This week the Vikings were at Dooly County on Tuesday after presstime. They will play next on Friday at Wheeler County at 6:00 p.m., and then will be at ECI on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
