Wheeler Loses Heartbreaker To Wilcox

The Wheeler County High School Bulldogs football team traveled to Wilcox County on Friday to take on the #8 team in the state. The Bulldogs dug themselves a big hole trailing 30-6 early in the 3rd quarter. The Bulldogs battled back to take the lead 34-30 with 6 minutes to go in the game. The Wheeler defense made a big stop and gave the Bulldogs the ball back with 4 minutes to go in the game, but the Wilcox defense forced a fumble and drove down to take the lead with 1 min left to go in the game, 3634.

The Bulldog offense drove the to ball to the 35 before coming up short on a hail mary attempt as time expired.

Offensively the Bulldogs were led by QB Jaquez Kincy, who passed for 225 yards and 3 touchdowns and rushed for 113 yards and 2 touchdowns. Single A State leading receiver Brandon Smallwood had another big night with 139 yards and a touchdown.

On Defense the Bulldogs were led by Tylon Gorham, who had 10 tackles and fumble recovery, Tee Jay Wilcox had 9 tackles and a tackle for loss, Claude Pound had 8 tackles and John Bell had 8 tackles. Head Coach Thomas Smith said, “Im super proud of the character our guys showed by battling back and competing. They showed tremendous heart.”

Wheeler has continued to show great improvement this season, and have played several top tier teams close. This week the Bulldogs will host rival Treutlen County with kickoff in Alamo at 7:30 p.m.
