Mr. Jim Paul Cowart, age 86, of the Toombs Central Community, died on Sunday, March 14, 2021, in Meadows Park Health and Rehab in Vidalia after an extended illness. Mr. Cowart was a lifelong resident of Toombs Central, a lifelong farmer and owner of J. Cowart, Inc. He was chosen Vidalia Onion Grower of the Year in 2000, was a member of Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association, and a lifelong member of Georgia Young Farmers Association. He was a member of Hardens Chapel United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis A. Cowart and Eula Mae Reece Cowart; and 2 sisters, Maxine Cowart and Shirley Mae Cowart Grissom.

Survivors include his wife, Tina Shuman Cowart of Toombs Central; 3 children, Chris Cowart Murphey and husband Marvin of Waynesboro, Jimmy Cowart and Jennifer Knight, and Anthony Cowart and wife Karen, all of the Marvin Yancey Community; 2 stepchildren, Rodney Wynn and fiancé Jackie Wright of Tampa, FL, and Kimberly Wynn of Augusta; 1 brother, Rufus Cowart and wife Barbara of Augusta; grandchildren, Wesley Wright and wife Brittany, Brandon Hargrove and wife Melanie, Karlie Wright, Payton Wright, Cole Hargrove, Lexie Hargrove, Amber Mosley and husband Michael, Landon Cowart, Abby Vaughn, Celina Wynn, Reilly Wynn, Kalina Wynn, Chet Brazell, Kinsley Monroe, and Koen Fountain; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The funeral service was held on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at 2:00 p.m., at Hardens Chapel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Bill Lee officiating. Burial followed in the Hardens Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lupie Zamorano, Michael Alexander, Mark Alexander, Craig Pittman, Kenton Frost and Pete Salazar.
