Wheeler Rolls Over FPCA
The Wheeler County High School Lady Bulldogs softball team faced off with First Preparatory Christian Academy in Hinesville last Monday and were at Appling County on Tuesday. Wheeler got a win over the Lady Highlanders of FPCA but fell to the Lady Pirates of Appling.
Wheeler is 13-6 on the season, and they are 6-2 in Region play and sit in first place in the Region. vs. FPCA This was a one-sided game for Wheeler as they rolled over FPCA and picked up a run rule win. Khloe Davis got things started for Wheeler with a 2-RBI single in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. They added to that lead in the top of the second inning with an RBI single from Gabby Angel that brought in two runs, and an RBI single from Amarria Brown to take a 6-0 lead.
Wheeler exploded for nine more runs in the top of the third inning. The Lady Bulldogs loaded the bases. A walk to Kiley Ricks scored a run, Gabby Angel was hit by a pitch to bring in another, and then an error scored two more runs to extend the lead to 10-0. Jadirra Randolph singled in a run as did Kinlee Raiford. Miley Johnson then drew a bases-loaded walk to plate another run, and another error scored two more runs to give Wheeler a 15-0 lead.
The Bulldogs held in the bottom of the third to take the run rule win, 15– 0.
vs. Appling
It was a bit tougher going for the Bulldogs against Appling County in Baxley on Tuesday. Wheeler took the early lead with a pair of RBI singles in the top of the first inning to go ahead, 3-0. But Appling answered with three runs in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 3-3.
Appling added three more runs in the second inning as they went on top, 6-3. One more from the Pirates in the fourth inning and another in the sixth gave them an 8-3 win over the Bulldogs.
This week Wheeler had just one game as they played Hawkinsville on the road on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action next Monday at East Laurens at 6:00 p.m.
