2 More Wins For Lady Indians
The Vidalia High School Lady Indians softball team played three games last week and won two of those. They dropped their first game of the week to the Lady Raiders of West Laurens but bounced back with a win over the Lady Falcons of East Laurens in a nail-biter and then blew out Savannah Christian to wrap up the week.
The Lady Indians are now 11-10 overall on the season and they are 5-0 in Region play and sitting in first place in the Region. vs. W. Laurens
It was a tough game for VHS as they traveled to West Laurens on Monday of last week. The Raiders jumped out with four runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. They added three more in the second inning and four more in the third to extend their lead to 11-0.
West Laurens needed just one more run in the fourth inning to take the win by the run rule, 12-0. Tori Polke had the only two hits of the game for VHS. vs. E. Laurens
Vidalia was back down in Dublin Wednesday to take on the Lady Falcons, and this time Vidalia came out on the winner’s side in a game that went deep into extra innings.
The Falcons plated the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning, but VHS tied it up in the top of the fifth on a fielder’s choice by Elizabeth Sowell. Neither team scored over the next two innings, sending the game into extras.
In the top of the 10th inning, the Indians took the lead on an RBI single by Deidra Boston, but that lead was short lived as the Falcons tied it back up in the bottom of the frame to send the game to the 11th inning.
Vidalia came through in the top of the 11th with a run that scored on a Falcon error. That put VHS up 3-2, and they held onto that lead in the bottom of the inning to take the win by that score. vs. Savannah
The final game of the week was a blowout win over the Lady Raiders at home on Thursday. VHS took the lead in the bottom of the first inning with three runs. VHS added three more runs on a hit by Sadie Berry in the third inning to push their lead to 6-0.
VHS plated five more runs in the fourth inning. Boston drove in two runs with a solid single, and then a bases loaded single drove in three more from Berry to extend the lead to 11-0. VHS held in the top of the next inning to take the game by the run rule.
This week VHS hosted Swainsboro on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Wednesday at the Academy for Classical Education at 5:00 p.m. and will then travel to Toombs County on Thursday for a rivalry matchup with the Lady Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m.
