The City of Vidalia will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence during their annual July 4th Celebration at Ronnie A. Dixon City Park.
Th efreeeventwillfeature games and vendors, live music, and a fireworks show to celebrate this monumental holiday. Attendees are encouraged to show off their love for their nation through their favorite patriotic gear or don their favorite “Parrot Head” island wear in honor of the Official and Original Jimmy Buffet Tribute Show, which will be performed by the A1A Band at 7:15 p.m.
The A1A Band was first formed in 1991, when lead vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist Jeff Pike invited drummer and harmonica player Scott Nickerson, founder of the first Jimmy Buffett Parrot Head Club and Parrot Heads In Paradise, to join him in his already successful solo tribute to Jimmy Buffett. The band became wildly successful, gaining recognition from Buffett and Margaritaville Records, and earning them opportunities, such as appearing in the “Cheeseburger in Paradise” and “Fruitcakes” MTV music videos.
Nickerson eventually left the band for personal, business, and health reasons, but the group continues to perform today with Pike; Lead Guitarist Chris Blackwell; Keyboardist and Background Vocalist Eric Baumgartner; Bass Guitarist Jeff Brewer; Percussionist and Drummer Wayne Viar; Background Vocalists Jillian Melko and Olivia Ivey; Saxophonist Sam Skelton; Trumpeter Rob Opitz; and Trombone Player Zach Opitz. Tommy Morfoot and Joseph Foe Davis also often join the Band as A1A Pirates and flag wavers, as they ensure the atmosphere remains fun and exciting.
The band’s popularity has continued to grow, especially after Buffett’s passing in 2023, as the group works to preserve Buffett’s legacy. Their show at Vidalia’s July 4th Celebration is sure to captivate the audience, as they bring a little bit of Margaritaville flair to the Sweet Onion City.
At 9:30 p.m., fireworks will light up the sky, as families and friends enjoy the community’s annual display.
Gates open for the event at 5:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets to sit on, but no coolers or pets are allowed. For more information, call (912) 5388687, visit the VisitVidaliaGa. com webpage, or the Visit Vidalia GA Facebook page.
