TCHS Over Johnson & Camden


The Lady Bulldogs softball team won two games last week over Johnson County and Camden County. They took on the Lady Trojans of Johnson on the road in Wrightsville on Wednesday and then were at home on Thursday against the Lady Wildcats of Camden. vs. Johnson Co.
The Toombs County Bulldogs kicked off their winning week with a decisive 14-3 victory over the Johnson County Lady Trojans on Wednesday. The Bulldogs got on the board in the top of the first inning when Natalie Quintero singled, followed by a groundout from Taylor Bland and a sacrifice fly from Sage White, each scoring a run. That put TCHS on top, 3-0.
Their lead grew in the second inning with a series of well-placed hits. Emerson Powell laid down a sacrifice bunt, Natalie Quintero doubled, Taylor Bland singled, and Elly Haygood walked, as Toombs extended their lead to 7-0.
Johnson got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the second inning to close the lead to 7-3, but Toombs blew the game open in the top of the third inning. The Bulldogs sealed the win with a six-run rally in the third inning. Natalie Quintero singled, Taylor Bland grounded out for a run, and Elly Haygood singled for two more runs. Mishi Smith added to the scoreboard with a double, driving in two more runs. That pushed the lead to 13-3.
Toombs added one more run in the fourth inning on the way to the 14-3 win.
Natalie Quintero had an impressive day at the plate, with a double in the second inning and singles in the first, third, and fourth innings. vs. Camden Co.
On Thursday, TCHS had a thrilling comeback victory, defeating the Camden County Wildcats 8-7 in walk-off fashion.
Toombs put the first run on the board in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Sage White. The Bulldogs found themselves trailing 5-1 in the second inning but rallied back. The Wildcats took the lead in the top of the second inning, scoring five runs, including a grand slam.
Toombs picked up three runs in the bottom of the third inning to close the lead to 5-4. In the top of the seventh inning, Camden added two more runs to push their lead to 7-4, but the Bulldogs tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning thanks to a home run by Taylor Bland and a sacrifice fly by Londynn Johnson. That sent the game into extra innings.
After holding Camden scoreless in the top of the eighth inning, Toombs had runners on base and an error allowed the winning run to score, securing the 8-7 walk-off win for the Bulldogs.
Toombs is now 6-4 on the season and they are 1-1 in Region play. They played a big game on Tuesday of this week on the road at rival Vidalia after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday at home in a Region contest against Savannah Christian at 6:00 p.m.
