The annual Vidalia Porchfest is looking for musicians, artisans, and volunteers willing to spend their day at the event from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 8.
The event is a unique form of festival, as residents of the Jackson Heights Neighborhood invite the public to enjoy musical performances from the porches of each home. In addition to the music, the festival also features a popup artisan market, where local crafters are invited to sell their creations. Vidalia Porchfest also features several food vendors within the neighborhood.
During the festival, guests will park in a designated parking area and travel from porch to porch by foot. “Bring your wagons, lawn chairs, and whatever else you would like. This is about spending time with local members of the community,' Vidalia Porchfest Committee Chairman Wes Chapman emphasized.
The event is free and designed to unite the community in a unique way. “It’s all about building community,” Chapman added. “We just want to build the community while celebrating music and art.” Because of this desire, the “Porchfest” committee welcomes any volunteers, as well as social groups or organizations that want to put up a booth at the event; they just ask that these individuals and groups inform the committee of their intent to set up or serve.
In preparation for the event, the Vidalia Porchfest Committee is seeking musicians to perform, artisans to set up, and volunteers to help the operation run smoothly. To sign up for any of these roles, email vidaliaporchfest@gmail.com, visit the Vidalia Porchfest website, or call (912) 537-1911.
