Wheeler Picks Up 3 Wins

It was a busy week for the Bulldog baseball team of Wheeler County High School as they played four games last week. Wheeler won three of those games as they are off to a 4-1 start on the season. vs. East Laurens

Wheeler kicked off the week with the Falcons of East Laurens on the road on Tuesday. Wheeler jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and never were challenged. Wheeler added another run in the second to take a 4-0 lead.

The Falcons scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the third inning. Wheeler added another run in the top of the fifth and then one more in the sixth to take a 6-1 win over East Laurens. vs. Montgomery

Wheeler rolled to a three inning run rule win over the Eagles of Montgomery County on Wednesday at home. Wheeler came out with five runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead. They added five more in the second inning to jump ahead, 10-0.

MCHS managed to get a run in the top of the third inning, but six more from Wheeler in the bottom of the frame gave the Bulldogs the win, 16-1. vs. Cook Co.

The Bulldogs suffered their only loss of the week on Friday against the AA Hornets of Cook County.

Cook picked up four runs in the top of the first inning for the early lead over the Bulldogs. Wheeler picked up a run in the second inning and then another in the third to close it to 4-2. Wheeler took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with three more runs to give them a 5-4 lead over the Hornets. One more for Wheeler in the fifth made the score 6-4. But in the top of the sixth inning Cook plated five runs as they went back on top, 9-6.

Wheeler fought, but managed to get just one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning as they lost the game, 9-7.

Ian Scott, Layton Horne, and Drew Dixon each had two hits in the game for the Bulldogs. vs. Johnson

Wheeler wrapped up the week with a win over Johnson County on the road on Saturday. The Bulldogs again took the early lead with three runs in the top of the first inning. Johnson picked up one in the bottom of the frame to make it 3-1.

Wheeler added a run in the top of the fifth inning, and then they plated three more in the six on the way to a 7-1 win over the Trojans.

This week Wheeler hosts Wilkinson County on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and then will host Johnson County on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
