The Dr. Mark and Tonya Spivey Public Library, located in Vidalia, was the meeting place for 6 African American authors on Saturday, February 17, as the writers spoke on their writing journey and shared their books with the community.

The room was filled with enthusiastic readers and listeners, as several authors – Dr. Nina Rickenbacker, Atlanta; Vertie King Williams, Reidsville; Billie Mann, Lyons; J. Nell Ford, Brunswick; Mikella Hansley, Swainsboro; Dr. Felicia George Prince, Statesboro – all took the time to speak with the attendees. “If you were not there, then you missed a treat,” one attendee shared.

The event, which is the second of this nature, was held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on February 17, and another similar event is scheduled to be held in Reidsville next month, on April 6. Author J. Nell Ford shared her thanks to not only the Dr. Mark and Tonya Spivey Public Library for their support, but also to Tal Harris and the women of the Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) sorority for providing special gifts to the authors, and to Vidalia Police Chief James Jermon for welcoming the group.
