BPC Volleyball Beat Stillman

Brewton-Parker College women’s Volleyball hosted Stillman (Ala.) on Friday afternoon to continue Southern States Athletic Conference play.
The Lady Barons (49, 1-6 SSAC) swept the Tigers (0-12, 0-6 SSAC) to secure the first conference victory of the season.
“Exciting day today not only for the win, but to have my family here in town for the first time ever,” Head Coach Obed Quiles mentioned. “We bounced back from last weekend and our energy was much improved.”
“Our serves were great all game,” Quiles added. “Hopefully, we can continue this form into tomorrow’s match.”
It was a special day for BPC Volleyball as the Lady Barons hosted a “Pink Out” in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The match was dedicated to Quiles’ mother, who was in attendance to watch her son coach volleyball for the first time in his 12-year career as a coach. His mother is still currently battling cancer and is on the path to remission.
Stillman opened the match with a 5-2 run with Brewton-Parker eventually moving to a 12-8 lead, topping off with a 6-0 run. The Lady Barons controlled the set for the rest of the way, closing out on an 8-2 run to win 25- 16.
Set two was a nearmirror start as the Tigers found themselves up 5-2 early, yet again. Brewton-Parker battled back and advanced forward on a 12-1 run to lead 14-6. After some back-and-forth play, BPC edged closer to a win with a four-point chunk for a 22-13 lead. The Lady Barons secured the second set with another 25-16 victory.
Brewton-Parker responded early once again as Stillman led 3-1. The Lady Barons quickly regained control of the third set, and did not look back, beginning with a 10-2 run for an 11-5 lead. Stillman tried to claw their way back into the match, but BPC slammed the door shut with threestraight scores to seal a 25-14 win in the final set.
Brewton-Parker controlled every facet of the game, finishing with 43 points, 41 digs, 33 kills, 30 assists, seven aces, and three blocks. The Lady Barons produced a .163 attacking percentage while the Tigers recorded a -.077 percentage. BPC’s best attacking set came in the second frame with 13 kills and a .222 attacking percentage. Amme Mobley and Kinsley Jordan led the way with eight kills apiece followed by Naomi Taake with seven. Jelisa Alexander recorded three aces while also leading the way with 23 assists. Defensive, Jalisia Famber notched a pair of blocks while Alexander notched eight digs.
