It was a big week on the hardcourt for the Toombs County High School Bulldogs basketball teams. The boys upset the #1 team in the Region Windsor Forest to move into the #3 spot in the standings and defeated Pierce County as well. The Lady Bulldogs also defeated Windor Forest, but fell to Pierce.

Girls vs. Windsor

The Lady Bulldogs pulled out the win over the Lady Knights of Windsor Forest in Savannah on Tuesday of last week. It was a close game all the way till the end with TCHS edging out Windsor, 30-28.

Boys vs. Windsor

In the boys game against the Knights, Windsor took an early 13-8 lead, but TCHS closed the gap in the second quarter, and was down 26-23 at the end of the first half.

In the third quarter the game remained close with the Bulldogs down by just one, 40-39 heading to the fourth quarter. In that final period the Bulldogs did just enough as they pulled out the big upset, 56-54.

Leading the way for Toombs was Dominic Eason with 17 points, and Demetrius Cutler added 10 points in the

Girls vs. Pierce

The Lady Bulldogs played well but couldn't keep up with the Lady Bears of Pierce. Pierce was up 7-4 early in the game, but by the second quarter Toombs had come back to take a 10-8 lead. Pierce went back on top 15-14, but the Lady Bulldogs answered and held an 18-17 lead late in the first half.

But by the fourth quarter the Bears had pulled away to a 41-32 lead on Toombs, and they held on to win the game 48-34.

Boys vs. Peirce Tamarien Mcarthur and Jesus Quintero gave the Bulldogs an early 5-2 lead. Pierce came back and took a 9-8 lead, and was up 12-8 with one minute left in the first quarter. Quintero hit a three and then got a layup on a fast-break to give the Bulldogs the lead, 13-12, just before the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter the Bulldogs were up 2013, and then a big ally-oop from Quintero to Eason gave TCHS a 22-13 lead. From there the Bulldogs began to pull away and were on top 26-16 by the end of the first half.

Toombs outscored Pierce 20-4 in the third quarter to take a 46-20 lead into the fourth. TCHS took the win over the Bears 6330.

Quintero led TCHS with 17 points and Eason added 15 in the win.

This week the Bulldogs are taking part in the Region Tournament at Tattnall County. The girls played on Tuesday after presstime against Pierce County. If they win that, they will play Tattnall on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. The boys played on Tuesday as well as after presstime against the winner of the Brantley and Appling game. If they win that contest, they will play on Thursday against Tattnall at 5:30 p.m.
