Story Walk proved to be one of the most successful and fun projects for the children participating in the summer reading program at the Treutlen County Library. Sixty children visited 16 offices and businesses in Soperton, where they read a page from the children’s book titled “Bear Snores On.”

In this children’s picture book, written by Karma Wilson, one by one a whole host of different animals and birds find their way out of the cold and into Bear's cave to warm up. But even after the tea has been brewed and the corn has been popped, Bear just snores on! Participants had to read to see what happens when he finally wakes up and finds his cave full of uninvited guests—all of them having a party without him!

The kids made their trek around town over a two week period to read the story. After reading the page posted at each business, they received a ticket to indicate they had visited the location, and they were also given treats and prizes. Once they completed their journey and finished the story, they returned their tickets to the library, where they received a new book for completing the activity.

The library expressed their appreciation to the community partners for participating and making the project a tremendous success. Participating businesses included Hall Bookkeeping, Treutlen County Farm Bureau, Soperton Police Department, Shabulous Boutique, Viking Nutrition, Soperton City Hall, Higgs Florist & Thoughtful Things, Treutlen County Board of Education, Soperton Farm Center, Altamaha EMC, Subway of Soperton, Georgia First Bank, State Farm, Treutlen County Health Department, Mason’s Auto Parts, and Treutlen County Commissioners.

Jeannie Rogers, Library Branch Manager commented, 'It is wonderful to live in a small community that supports our local library. Don’t forget to visit your area libraries… wherever you are located! You never know what you will find there.'

“From an early age, books were my constant companions and my local library, a place I could find a new friend on every shelf.”
