The Georgia Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (GACCE) recently recognized Greater Vidalia Chamber Executive Vice President Debbie Evans for her extensive work to promote local businesses, as the Association presented Evans with the 2026 Legacy Award.
The Legacy Award recognizes long-term Chamber of Commerce executives who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and innovation while building stronger chambers, businesses, and communities throughout their careers.
Evans has faithfully served Vidalia, Lyons, and Toombs County for 37 years, as her visionary lead-

ership and innovative mindset have helped to not only improve the Greater Vidalia Chamber, but the surrounding areas, and has created multiple programs that have strengthened local businesses and served as a catalyst for growth throughout the community. She created the Leadership Greater Vidalia program, which has helped to equip local citizens to effectively lead in the community and informed them of areas which they could get involved within the community, helped to implement the Chamber REACH Total Resource Campaign which raises funding each year for the Chamber to effectively serve the members, and began the annual Summit, which brings in business professionals and guest speakers to equip business professionals for success.
Most recently, Evans led the vision for the creation of the Greater Vidalia Center for Rural Entrepreneurship – relocating the Chamber and Toombs County Development Authority to downtown Vidalia and providing incubator spaces, resources, and guidance for entrepreneurs working to create and improve their businesses.
Evans was surprised with the recognition on July 9, during the Association Executive Leadership Conference on Jekyll Island. “She’s known for what we all strive to be known for: integrity; humility; her willingness to mentor others; her quiet but mighty, strong leadership. She never seeks recognition for herself, but she creates opportunities for others to shine. She’s been a trusted mentor and a role model for years, and those are all things that leave a lasting legacy – not just successful programs and beautiful buildings, but the way [she] makes people feel every day, the confidence [she] inspires every day, and the example [she] sets every single day,” Georgia Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives Chair Elect David Bradley emphasized.
Evans was presented with a commemorative award and surprised by her Greater Vidalia Chamber colleagues, who secretly made the trip to celebrate the honor. “Congratulations to Debbie Evans on receiving the most prestigious award for Chamber of Commerce executives in the State,” Greater Vidalia Chamber President Michele Johnson remarked. “Debbie is as humble and hardworking as they come, and has dedicated her life’s work to our community. In the industry we work in, that is not commonplace, and we are so blessed to have her.”
