FARMERS RE-OPENING — A huge crowd of locals along with executives and employees of The Farmers Furniture Company gathered Thursday afternoon to celebrate the Grand Opening of the company's newly rebuilt store location in Soperton. Hurricane Helene completely destroyed the previous facility located on Second Street in downtown Soperton. The new store is one of the nicest stores in the company chain and has historical significance because Soperton is where the company's legacy began in 1949 when Sherwin Glass started selling furniture from a small store in downtown Soperton. His first employee was Chan Carter, who played a vital role in the company's growth until his passing. The new facility is dedicated to Mr. Glass and Chan Carter. Pictured with Phillip Faircloth, center, CEO of Farmers, is Leigh Carter, left, Marty Carter, back, son and daughter of Chan, and Jordy Carter, right, their cousin, who is Chief Operating Officer of the company.
