Three teenagers have been arrested after being named suspects in a Vidalia shooting that left one 18 year-old injured.

Officers were dispatched to Lang Street at around 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, after the Department received a 911 call reporting a male lying in the street on Lang Street near the road’s intersection with McIntosh Street.

Upon arrival, officers found an 18 year-old male – later identified as Elijah Moore of Vidalia – suffering from an apparent continued from page

gunshot wound. Toombs-Montgomery EMS treated the teen on the scene before he was rushed to Memorial Health Meadows Hospital, and later airlifted to another medical facility for further treatment because of the nature of his injuries.

At the beginning of the investigation, officers struggled to gain information, as it was reported that the victim and individuals believed to have information related to the shooting had been uncooperative. Yet, as the case went on, three suspects were identified and later taken into custody.

Brenton Farmer, 17, of Dublin, was arrested by the Dublin Police Department Crime Suppression Unit, as the Unit assisted in taking the suspect into custody. Farmer is believed to be the shooter in the incident, and is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, conspiracy to commit a crime, discharge of a firearm near a public roadway, and possession of a handgun by a person under the age of 18.

Investigators believe Farmer did not act alone, as Christian Wideman, 17, of Vidalia, was arrested by the Vidalia Police Department Patrol Division for his involvement in the case and Wendell Simpson, 17, of Vidalia, later turned himself in at the Toombs County Detention Center for his role in the shooting. Wideman and Simpson are each charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and party to a crime.

The shooting investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information related to the incident should contact Sergeant Investigator James Clubb at (912) 537-4123.
