Indians Soccer Kicks Off Season with Solid Showing
The Vidalia High School soccer teams stormed onto the pitch to open their season last week, facing a gauntlet of three opponents: the Johnson of Savannah Atomsmashers, the Washington County Golden Hawks, and the Dodge County Indians. It was a highly successful opening campaign, with the Lady Indians sweeping the week with a perfect 3-0 record, while the boys’ team finished strong at 2-1. vs. Johnson
Against the Johnson Atomsmashers, the Lady Indians set the tone early, rolling to a decisive victory. They secured a 10-0 mercy rule win, showcasing their offensive firepower right out of the gate. The boys’ match proved to be the toughest challenge of the week. In a tightly contested battle, the Indians fell just short, dropping a close 3-2 decision to Johnson for their only loss of the week. vs. Washington Co.
Both teams found their stride against the Washington County Golden Hawks. The Lady Indians continued their winning ways, cruising to a comfortable 5-1 victory. The boys’ team responded to their previous loss with an explosion of offense, putting up five goals in the first half and adding another five in the second to trigger the mercy rule and seal a massive 10-0 shutout. vs. Dodge Co.
To close out the week against Dodge County, the Lady Indians remained unstoppable, pulling out a solid 5-2 win to keep their record unblemished. The boys’ game was a closer affair than their match against Washington, but the Indians maintained control to secure a 4-2 victory, ending the week on a high note.
The Indians have a light week this week as their only games were on Tuesday against Portal after presstime.
