Good Week For Wheeler Basketball

It was a grueling but successful three-game week for the Wheeler County High School basketball teams. The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs hit the road twice and hosted a Saturday showdown, combining for a stellar 5-1 record across six games. The Boys squad finished the week with a perfect 3-0 run, while the Lady Bulldogs bounced back from a Tuesday loss to dominate their weekend opponents. vs. Wilcox County

The week began on the road in Rochelle against the Wilcox County Patriots.

The Lady Bulldogs struggled to find their rhythm against the Lady Patriots. Despite a hardfought effort, Wheeler fell short, taking a 45-32 loss to open the week.

The Boys team fared much better, setting the tone early. Wheeler jumped out to a 15-10 lead after the first quarter and exploded in the second, stretching the advantage to a commanding 42-23 by halftime. The Bulldogs maintained control in the third, leading 55-37, before closing out the game for a solid 70-56 victory. vs. Montgomery County On Friday, the teams traveled to Mt. Vernon to face rival Montgomery County, returning home with two victories.

The Lady Bulldogs shook off their Tuesday loss with a suffocating defensive performance. They completely overwhelmed the Lady Eagles, rolling to a massive 66-10 victory. The Boys game proved to be a tighter contest. The Eagles put up a fight, keeping the game competitive throughout the night. However, the Bulldogs made the necessary plays down the stretch to fend off Montgomery County, securing a close 66-61 win. vs. Dooly County

Wheeler County wrapped up the week at home on Saturday, sweeping the Dooly County Bobcats.

The Lady Bulldogs started quickly, taking an 11-6 lead after the first quarter. They then blew the game wide open over the next two periods, extending their lead to 4715. They cruised through the final frame to secure a 49-27 win.

In the finale, the Boys team found themselves in a deadlock, tied 18-18 at the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs broke the stalemate in the second, taking a 41-31 halftime lead. Wheeler kept their foot on the gas in the third, pushing the margin to 57-35, and went on to claim the victory to cap off an undefeated week.

The Lady Bulldogs are now 5-8 on the year, and they are 4-2 in the Region. The boys are 103, and they are 6-0 in the Region play. This week they played Appling County on Tuesday after presstime. They will host Treutlen County on Friday at 6:00 p.m., and will wrap up the week on Saturday at Telfair County at 3:00 p.m.
