Mt. Vernon Garden Club Celebrates Christmas

For the past few years, club member Susan Beard has invited members of the Mt Vernon Garden Club to hold their Christmas party at her home, so on Tuesday, December 9, that is exactly what they did. Susan has a lovely home, and it is beautifully decorated, especially for Christmas.

Prior to lunch, Hartley Williamson, a student at Montgomery County High School, spoke to the members about a program available to Montgomery County citizens, through a grant Montgomery County has received, allowing citizens to receive a free tree to help replant those trees lost in Hurricane Helene. A survey was handed out to each club member to complete.

Following this presentation, a buffet luncheon was served. Susan had prepared several delicious quiches. Club members brought side dishes to accompany the quiches. Dessert and coffee followed, along with much conversation as there was no business to discuss on this day of friendship and celebration.

A Christmas party wouldn't be complete without exchanging gifts, but this was a different kind of gift exchange. It was called 'Dirty Santa.' Each member brought a tree ornament or some other Christmas gift with a $10 limit. Each member could decide to keep her gift or take someone else's. There was much fun and laughter, and everyone came away with a nice gift.
