Workforce Housing Coming to Lyons
Soperton celebrated the nation’s 250th birthday on Saturday, July 11, 2026, with the city’s chamber of commerce hosting their annual July Jam. “Thanks to everyone who came out. It was really hot, but we had a good time,” said Deborah Ferarre, President of the Soperton-Treutlen Chamber of Commerce. Ferarre thanked the vendors who took part in this year’s July Jam and the Brantley Family band for providing musical entertainment. “The food was excellent, drinks were a welcome cool relief from the heat, the kids had a fun time watching the cotton candy being made into animals, and the water slide was certainly a big hit. And a special thanks to the Treutlen County Commissioners for providing the fireworks display,' Feffare said.

The Parker Place affordable workforce housing development is currently under construction in Lyons, as the developer uses a grant received in 2024 to bring more housing options to the area.

On April 17, 2024, The City of Lyons was awarded a grant of 1.6 million dollars to support the construction of housing in the community. These funds were earmarked to help the City to provide muchneeded infrastructure for a development where twenty-seven single-family homes will be constructed. This 14.5-acre subdivision at the intersection of Bulldog Road and Parker Street – named Parker Place – will supply homes for the growing workforce.

The Parker Place subdivision fills a need outlined in the 2024 Toombs County Housing Study, which found that those working in the community needed housing. Thus, the homes and design of Parker Place was created to specifically fill these needs, while the location places residents in the center of the city, within walking distance to Toombs County Schools and a short drive from Lyons’ downtown shops and restaurants.

Parker Place is being developed by a local developer, and Waller Construction, who was selected through a bidding process, is constructing the homes.

Construction workers will begin framing the homes this week, as they continue to work towards completing the project.
