Vidalia Library Continues the Fun in July

The Dr. Mark and Tonya Spivey Public Library has hosted a summer of fun throughout June, and will continue the excitement in July, as the library has scheduled numerous events for patrons of all ages.

On Wednesday, July 1, Jason Clark and the Southeastern Reptile Rescue will teach and show off numerous reptiles to community members at 11 a.m. at the Southeastern Technical College Auditorium.

Children can enjoy playing against one another in both virtual and board games during the Game Time! program at 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 2.

The Library will be closed on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.

Patrons can enjoy digging for fossils during the Dinosaur Dig at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 6. Dinosaur Dig attendees must preregister before the event by calling the library.

On Tuesday, July 7, the library’s youngest patrons – ages birth through five – will meet for the For the Kids by the Kids! Story Time at 11 a.m. with Kain Futch, while kids – ages 6 through 14 – meet for Lego Club later at 4 p.m. and can enjoy an art-based story time during Art and Tales at 4:30 p.m.

Kids can explore the library’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) room and 3-D printer during Spark Time from 3:45 p.m. until 4:45 p.m., and adults (ages 20 and older) of all experience levels will gather to play Dungeons and Dragons from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8.

Patrons of all ages can come show off their knowledge of the 2000’s during Trivia Night at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 9.

Babies and toddlers can learn through movement and song during the Wiggles and Giggles program at 10:30 a.m., and teenagers will meet to play Dungeons and Dragons from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, July 10.

Adults will meet for Book Bedazzling at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 11. Book Bedazzling attendees should preregister for the event by calling the Library.

At 5 p.m. on Monday, July 13, patrons of all ages test their knowledge of the 2000s during Trivia Night.

On Tuesday, July 14, the library’s youngest patrons – ages birth through five – will meet for Story Time with Southeastern Technical College Vice President for Student Affairs Barry Dotson at 11 a.m., while kids – ages 6 through 14 – meet for Lego Club later at 4 p.m. and can enjoy an art-based story time during Art and Tales at 4:30 p.m.

Kids can learn to make butter with Toombs County Farm Bureau Representative Shelby Galbreath at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15. Attendees should preregister before the event by calling the Library.

Teenagers will make candy sushi at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 16. Attendees should preregister for the event by calling the Library.

On Friday, July 17, the library’s youngest patrons – ages birth through five – will meet for Wiggles and Giggles at 10:30 p.m., and kids will enjoy a sweet treat and show off their creativity during Cookies & Canvas at 4 p.m. Cookies & Canvas attendees should preregister for the event by calling the Library.

A weekend movie will be shown at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, as patrons will meet to watch Jurassic Park. The Library will host a Dinosaur Tea Party at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 20. Attendees should preregister for this event by calling the Library.

On Tuesday, July 21, the library’s youngest patrons – ages birth through five – will meet for Story Time with Vidalia City Manager Josh Beck at 11 a.m., while kids – ages 6 through 14 – meet for Lego Club later at 4 p.m. and can enjoy an art-based story time during Art and Tales at 4:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, July 28, the library’s youngest patrons – ages birth through five – will meet for Story Time with The Advance News Editor Makaylee Randolph at 11 a.m., while kids – ages 6 through 14 – meet for Lego Club later at 4 p.m. and can enjoy an art-based story time during Art and Tales at 4:30 p.m.

Teens can bring their laptops, phones, ipads, or other gaming devices to hangout with other gamers during the drop-in Nerds, Geeks, & Gaming Meet Up! Event from 1:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29.

The Library will celebrate the end of the Summer reading Program with a Pizza Party at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 30.

At 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 31, the library’s youngest patrons – ages birth through five – will learn through movement and song during Wiggles and Giggles.

The library is located at 610 Jackson Street in Vidalia, and is open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday. The library is closed on Sunday. For more information, call (912) 537-9283.
